As I pen this, the first significant tax reform in over three decades is on the brink of passage and likely will be signed into law this week. We have been intensely focused on this over the past few weeks. This tax legislation will enact changes that will have significant impacts on the economy and the markets. The corporate tax rate cut from 35% to 21% immediately puts the country in a much more competitive position vis a vis the OECD countries (22.5% average rate).

In addition, clarification of tax policy should ignite an M&A wave in 2018 -- especially in sectors where multinationals have hundreds of billions of dollars stashed in overseas operations, as do technology giants like Action Alerts PLUS holding Microsoft (MSFT) and drug and biotech concerns like Amgen (AMGN) .
