Playing the Regional Reports
We received several economic reports Monday for not only the U.S. but also a number of other countries and regions, including the eurozone, China, India, Brazil and Vietnam. It's a virtual food court of data from the Institute for Supply Management, HSBC and Markit Economics. Sifting through it confirms some things, raises some questions and points to a rebound.
According to Markit's Eurozone Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index reading for November, the current downturn in the region continued for its 16th month. While the rate of the decline eased in November, the index figure for the month fell to 46.2, well below the expansion/contraction line of 50. Manufacturing production contracted for the ninth consecutive month and new export orders declined for the 17th consecutive month.
