Taking Cues From the Insiders

What a combination we are facing. As the government shutdown continues, along with the increasing scope of gridlock in Washington, the situation is looking increasingly as though it will give way to a larger debt ceiling as well as deficit-reduction conversations.

What will make this a tad more difficult to gauge will be the impact of the government shutdown on the economic-data-publishing schedule. As we saw Friday, there was no September employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In fact, if you visit the BLS website, you'll see an announcement telling you, "During the shutdown period BLS will not collect data, issue reports, or respond to public inquiries.
