While attention has been focused on the government shutdown with much brain power trying to figure out how best to invest in that environment, people continue to eat and bathe, and companies continue to run. For some that means figuring out how to contend with the shutdown, but for others it means continuing to work on new products to drive future revenues.

I could be talking about Apple's (AAPL) much ballyhooed iWatch, or some other newfangled wearable computing device, but I'm not. I could be referring to Ford's (F) recent acquisition that positions it for what I call The Connected Car. Or about AT&T's (T) Digital Life offering that's comprised today of home security and automation solutions that will pit it against ADT Corp. (ADT) and others.
