Give Apple a Rest

A few weeks ago, when Apple (AAPL) rallied strongly for a few consecutive sessions, plenty of folks were determined to compare this market situation with what we saw the spring, when the market had been All About Apple. As I've previously argued, I don't see it that way. In the spring, many other charts were clearly in downtrends while Apple lived in a world of its own. That is not the case now.

In fact, after the action over the last two weeks, I feel even more strongly that this market is different now vs. in the spring. If I had told you that the S&P 500 would rally 1% in a month -- essentially 1420 in mid-August to the current 1433 -- and that Apple would be flat or down, you probably wouldn't have believed me.
