This has been a normal August for the markets – it's been deathly slow. We've gotten so used to seeing crazy volatility and big moves that we've forgotten how that this type of action is typical for August. The big hedge fund managers head out to the Hamptons and leave us poor folk to continue trying to make a living during the "dog days."

But there are opportunities in slow markets sometimes. I used to never miss the weeks in August on the trading floor or the week between Christmas and New Year's, which is another deathly slow, low turnout market period.
