Be Careful With the 'Easy' Plays
J.C. Penney (JCP) just proved that if you set the bar low enough, even a dead man can get over it. Expectations are so low at the retailer, it can miss and miss badly, yet the stock still pushes higher. It doesn't hurt that the short interest is approaching nearly one-third of the shares out there, but this still isn't a number or a story I would buy. Squeezes can occur.
Look at the two big pushes made by Sears Holdings (SHLD) earlier this year -- J.C. Penney isn't a slam-dunk short, even on the pop today.
