Looking Elsewhere in Mobile Chips

Normally when I talk mobile chips, the cast of characters tends to be Qualcomm (QCOM) and Broadcom (BRCM), as well as the radio frequency (RF) chip suppliers like Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), RF Micro Devices (RFMD) and others. Others tend to include ARM Holdings (ARMH). One common trap among investors is to keep going to the same well and revisiting the same ideas time and time again. Odds are your guilty of it. I know I have been in the past. To do so time and time again, while easy to do, may mean that you are overlooking a new player that has some good or maybe great growth prospects. 

One such example is Peregrine Semiconductor (PSMI), which reported better-than-expected results this morning for the second consecutive quarter. With only six analysts covering the shares and only 250,000 or so shares trading daily on average (vs. more than 3 million for SWKS and 4 million for RFMD), it's one of the lesser known RF semiconductor companies.
