This is week is going to be a critical one for earnings and the market. More than 100 S&P 500 companies are due to report their numbers this week. Results this week will give investors a good overview of what sectors of the economy are doing well, which are challenged and what areas should continue to be watch items. More importantly, this week's earnings slate could determine whether the market can continue to rally.

Multiples are significantly higher that they were 18 months ago. The market has risen about 40% over that time span.
