Weighing Earnings Plays

Intel (INTC) continues to impress today. The shares have decided to rally into the mid-afternoon. I was fortunate to simply ride some of my longer-term shares into earnings. The action definitely defied anything we've seen over the past year with regard to market reaction. Sometimes the gut is right. Sometimes the gut is lucky. Either way, it kept me from playing options too tightly. 

The other name was iGate (IGTE), where buying the stock at the open and simply trailing higher wound up as the better play than options. The straddles were so illiquid, I don't know one person who was filled trying to make that trade. It happens. There are times when a plan doesn't come together simply because you can't get filled.
