Tech Needs a Trim
Tech is so dangerous here, I hesitate to even say good things about Apple (AAPL). The preannouncements from Applied Materials (AMAT) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) are devastating because they are soup to nuts in the food chain of semiconductors, and it's obvious that people are willing to look past them for some sort of elusive positive that might not be there -- a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, perhaps.
Sure, AMD has to deal with Intel (INTC), which is a superior player in every way. But there's no doubt that AMD is a proxy for personal computers of all sorts, so the idea of buying a Dell (DELL) or a Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) after this is downright lunacy.
