Evaluating the Earnings Plays

Earnings from last night are nothing to write home about. Without the after-hours short trade of Buffalo Wild Wings (BWLD), it would have been a red morning on the earnings front for me.

In addition,  Newmont Mining (NEM) has been a total disaster. I thought if NEM showed some strength in the face of a poor report, then maybe we could mark the bottom in the miner sector. That didn't happen. In fact, NEM has just continued to weaken throughout the morning. I figured this to be an aggressive trade, but I am actually a bit surprised by how weak NEM is this morning. It is quite possible the mid $20s ($25-$27) are in store before this one can finally find a bottom.
