FedEx Packing Heat
Investors turn to FedEx (FDX) to get a read on the direction of the economy -- and, given the uncertainty over fuel prices and European economies, all eyes will be on the company when it reports its fiscal third quarter, scheduled for March 22. Will FedEx continue to deliver profits or will the package be delayed?
FedEx delivered strong results in fiscal 2011. Revenue grew 13.2% year over year, and its operating margin of 6.5% was 100 basis points off the 2009 lows. In fiscal 2010, after three years of declining earnings per share, the company was finally able to report that EPS grew 23% for the year to $4.90. Free cash flow came roaring back, too.
