An ETF for the Robot Age

You have no doubt heard about Google's (GOOG) driverless car and heard that both Facebook (FB) and Amazon (AMZN) are contemplating the use of drones. Some of you are no doubt having visions of Skynet's artificial intelligence from the Terminator movie franchise, or picturing the cool technology from Minority Report. While I am not in any rush for a personal T-1000, robots have become a key part of industrial manufacturing. Ask an investor in CyberOptics (CYBE) or Cognex (CGNX).

We are starting to see the use of robots creep into everyday life, and those of you who use the Roomba floor-vacuuming robots or the Braava floor cleaning and Scooba floor washing robots from iRobot (IRBT) know what I'm talking about. But if you thought iRobot was just a vendor of home-cleaning robots, the company's recently filed 10-K should set you straight. Over the last 11 years, the company has sold more than 5,000 tactical military robots, most of which were sold to the U.S. military and deployed on missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
