Canon Is in Position to Bounce
Actor Ashton Kutcher is the well-known corporate spokesperson for Canon (CAJ), Japan's leading manufacturer of cameras, office machines, computer peripherals and other optical-related products. He puts forth a youthful, vibrant image for this old-line company, which was founded in 1937. Canon has a worldwide network that generates about $47 billion in annual revenue.
As of late September, Canon had corporate cash of about $11.2 billion against total debt of just $219.7 million. Debt accounted for less than 1% of the company's capital structure. Last year's flooding in Thailand and the strong yen combined to restrain recent growth. Canon is expected to report earnings per share in a range of $2.60 to $2.65 when it releases its final 2011 numbers in March. That would represent better than 8% year-over-year growth.
