There isn't much worse than getting caught in a short squeeze. I really don't believe there is.
I've been on the wrong side of long positions that caught me by surprise or caught me lazy without a stop, or long positions I intended to hold for the long term that were hit hard. There is the opportunity with a long position to just sit on it. You can try and wait out the bad news, bad market or just bad trend.
