Sizing Up the Pre-Earnings Action
Pfizer (PFE) is a current long holding and the biggest name to report earnings before the bell tomorrow. Although this has been a slow but steady breakout name, I'm not expecting much on the earnings front as far as price movement goes. I think just $0.25 to maybe $0.50 is about all we see out of this giant. I'll be a buyer on any pullback to $26, but I'll still be interested in a trade if Pfizer drops to $26.50 and holds. I don't plan to trade this one before earnings.
I don't plan to take a position in VMWare (VMW) before earnings, but this will be one I will watch closely in the after-hours session and into tomorrow's trading. Options are looking for about an $8 move into February expiration. While that is altogether possible, I don't like playing it into earnings.
